Winchester College website gives refresh to 600-year-old brand

The 14th-century school has launched a website to bring the values of the institution into the 21st century

Winchester College has launched a new website to rebrand the 600-year-old institution.

The school’s new digital platform has seen significant growth on its predecessor and has helped to incorporate the 14th-century traditions of the school into a 21st-century image.

The new website, which has already seen an 85% increase in usage on the school’s previous website, was designed to “throw open the doors” to the school and make more of its unique offering to current and prospective parent and students.

A new prospectus pack is also in development.

After 600 years of evolution, the school’s positioning had become confused and did not accurately reflect the reality of living or studying here – Jenny Michalczuk, director of communications

Jenny Michalczuk, director of communications for Winchester College and project lead, said: “After 600 years of evolution, the school’s positioning had become confused and did not accurately reflect the reality of living or studying here.

“We needed to look afresh at the needs and expectations of pupils and prospective parents in order to create a warm, authentic and 21st-century brand that complemented the school’s excellent academic and historic reputation.”

Founded in 1382, Winchester College has the longest history of any English school and continues to bear the original crest and coat of arms of founder William of Wykeham, bishop of Winchester and chancellor of England.

The team have refreshed the crest and given greater prominence to the college’s motto “Manners Makyth Man”.

The website was created by creative agency Marmalade on Toast, and utilised data analysis of traffic to create a user-guided design.
